Strep A Test and Treat

Sore throats are a common ailment, especially in winter. People concerned that they may have contracted a throat infection already turn to pharmacies for over the counter remedies but pharmacies can help patients further by running a test 'n treat service. Trained pharmacists can confirm a patient's strep A diagnosis using a rapid test kit, then dispense appropriate treatment depending on the test result.

How to get the sore throat tested

A pharmacist will test a sore throat with a throat swab and decide whether to offer antibiotics. If the sore throat is not bacterial, they can suggest treatments to help you manage your symptoms, like painkillers and lozenges.

If it is bacterial, they can decide whether you need antibiotics and provide these to you.
